The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam (Potsdam, NY) seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Collaborative Piano. Successful candidates will bring creative and innovative approaches to the study of music, and will demonstrate the capacity to recruit and teach students with diverse interests and backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates with additional expertise in one or more of the areas listed below.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities will include teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service. Teaching duties will include courses in the core music theory/aural skills sequence, supplemented by musical collaboration with students. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain or develop a regional and national reputation, and to participate in service to the university, school, and department. This position may require teaching during evening/weekend hours, online, or at off-site SUNY Potsdam locations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate degree in Music Theory, or in another field of Music with a concentration in Music Theory, at time of appointment.
Demonstrated record of success in teaching at the university level.
Demonstrated record of success as a collaborative pianist at the university and/or professional level.
