I urge you to think of ways to counteract racism and other forms of prejudice in your own work: by changing your course content, broadening your scholarship, or simply reaching out to persons of color in our Society to express your support.

It is with sadness that we write that Helen Brown, longtime member of the Society for Music Theory (SMT), and one of the pioneering women in the field, passed away on April 12th, 2020.

On behalf of the editorial board and staff of Music Theory Online, we would like to announce the publication of Issue 26.1. 

The issue contains articles by Oliver Chandler, Martin Clayton, David Heetderks, Cora S. Palfy, and Derek Remeš; a review-essay by Dmitri Tymoczko; and a conference report by Fred Everett Maus.

This year's workshops for graduate students are "Analysis of Music and the Musicalized Moving Image" with Anna Gawboy and "Theorizing Categorically: Film Music and Beyond" with Scott Murphy. The peer learning programs offered are "Music and Emotion: A Semi-Practical Approach" with Arnie Cox and "Form and Forming: Schoenbergian Analysis" with Áine Heneghan. Deadlines for applications are July 15, 2020.

In response to the precautionary measures many institutions have taken against COVID-19, we have started a collaborative doc (like Google Docs) on our Humanities Commons (HC) page for sharing pedagogical materials and technology tips that would be helpful during this time.
